Overview

Utilizing the latest, most advanced technology, the highly skilled dentists at Washington Center for Dentistry use 3-D X-rays to get a better look at a patient's mouth. With this state-of-the-art technology, the dentists are able to get unobstructed, better-detailed imaging of a patient’s teeth, mouth, face and neck. The images are then used to customize a better, more effective treatment plan to treat and repair any number of dental issues. Since the dentists can see more of what is going on in the patient’s mouth, they can catch conditions earlier and even prevent other issues from arising.

What to Expect

As the patient, all you have to do is sit back and relax while your dentist takes 3-D x-rays. The machine is essentially an x-ray scanner mounted on a rotating arm that does all the work. While sitting in the chair, the scanner will move around your head, obtaining all of the needed data. You don’t even have to smile because it will get all of your best—and not so great—angles! Once all of the data is collected, your dentist can focus on whatever needs attention. No mess, no fuss and no pain!

They have the whole floor. The staff is super nice and they treat you well. The downside is that you have to pay upfront and then get your money from your insurance, which they submit for you.

How Is It Different?

When comparing 3-D x-rays to traditional ones, there’s basically no comparison. While tradition x-rays only focus on the teeth, 3-D x-rays gather every aspect of the mouth, head and neck with precision and accuracy. For each traditional x-ray, another exposure would be needed and you know how time-consuming it could be to wait while exposures were shifted in and out. The process seemed to last an eternity. With 3-D x-rays, it’s so much quicker and efficient. Of course, regular x-rays give flat pictures, whereas 3-D gives the whole picture to allow your dentist to diagnose and treat you more effectively. Would you like another plus? There’s no film to get lost, so you won’t have to pose again due to mishandling.
