Overview

Say "good-bye" to the goop, gagging and discomfort that can occur when making a model of teeth and "hello" to the iTero® scanner. With this technology, the dentists of Washington Center for Dentistry can take a clean, no-mess digital impression of a patient’s mouth. The new scanning technology completely does away with the tray and Silly-Putty impressions, capturing images as digital photographs and providing them to dentists and dental laboratories. The iTero digitally records teeth after they are prepared for new restorations, and the data is transmitted electronically to the dental lab to make crowns, veneers, bridges, inlays and onlays for your restorative and cosmetic dentistry procedures.

What Are the Benefits?

  • Improved quality of the impression for better-fitting restorations.
  • Elimination of uncomfortable, "putty-like" impression materials that cause some patients to initiate their gag reflex.
  • Less time needed to spend in the dental chair.
  • Increase in comfort and less anxiety for patients needing impressions for treatment.
  • Fewer errors and inaccuracies in impressions that are often caused by the traditional impression-taking process.
  • Elimination of factors that affect accuracy in impressions, such as technique and quality of materials. For example, crowns fit better when the impression is an accurate copy of the mouth.
  • Scan of entire mouth in minutes.
  • Electronic storage of paper-free digital impression, saving space and providing efficient record-keeping.
  • Environmentally friendly way to dispose of plastic trays and impression materials, with no need for landfill space.

Washington Center for Dentistry is a 5-star practice. A few weeks ago, I experienced severe tooth pain and found this practice by googling "DC dentist open on Saturday." I'm glad that I did. When I first called to make an appointment, the receptionist was very helpful and got me right in. I found the office space to be very nice - modern, yet welcoming. Hisham, the dental assistant, is wonderful. A very nice and attentive guy. Dr. Fordjour is an excellent dentist. I have had some bad experiences with dentists in the past, which makes me somewhat cautious (read: terrified) to visit any dentist's office. I explained this to Dr. Fordjour. He listened, was very patient, professional, and honest. The work that he did on my crown is beautiful, but the best part is that it was virtually pain free (like, almost no pain at all)! I highly recommend Dr. Fordjour and Washington Center for Dentistry.

I just had a procedure done at this dental clinic. The doctors anf assistants are all very caring. Even though my insurance pays very little because they are not in my network, I don't see myself changing doctor or dental clinic soon. Dr. Fordjour was amazing and very professional. His caring demeanor makes the visits less daunting.Thank you ????????

I've been a patient at WCD for almost 30 years. Wonderful care and people. I have no qualms about recommending them to anyone, especially those who have had uncomfortable experiences in dental chairs in the past.

Our Technique

An intraoral, handheld wand captures the structure of the teeth and gums using the latest optical technology. Inserted into the mouth, the wand moves along the surface area of the tooth or teeth. A chair-side monitor screen displays the image captured, and patients and dentists have the ability to view teeth instantly in 3D, improving the level of communication during consultations and during the treatment process. The dentist reviews the electronic image, and manipulates or enlarges it to analyze precise details. Now, the dentist can identify mistakes in the impression and correct them on-screen before sending the digital impression electronically to the dental laboratory. The scanning process can be stopped and started as many times as needed. This review-and-adjust step eliminates possible errors in the process of taking accurate impressions. Accurate impressions of the mouth are key elements in fabricating quality restorations. The iTero successfully makes digital impressions in Washington, DC of our patients’ cosmetic dentistry treatments, including crowns, inlays, onlays, bridges, implants and orthodontic procedures, such as Invisalign®.
