Mellon, conceived the idea of the National Gallery of Art. The gallery was established in 1937 and officially opened to the American public in 1941 with world-class art. Throughout its history, the National Gallery of Art has continued to evolve and delight generation after generation with its beautiful, inspirational pieces of art.
