Taking My Child to the Dentist
When Do I Take My Child to the Dentist?
You should schedule your childs first dental appointment after you notice a first tooth, or by his or her first birthday.
Childrens dentistry services are an important way to promote proper development of your childs teeth and jaws, and to support gum health. In the years ahead, your childs dentist may recommend braces or show you good ways to help your kids stick to an oral hygiene routine. In your childs first appointment, most of the time will be spent creating a positive experience and providing you with information about how to clean your childs first teeth.
ONCE YOUR CHILD REACHES AGE 5 OR SO, DENTISTRY TREATMENTS MAY INCLUDE:
- Teeth cleaning
- Fluoride treatments
- Dental sealants
These early treatments prevent cavities and promote healthy teeth. Even though your childs first teeth will fall out, it is important to keep them healthy now so your child can enjoy optimum comfort and function from his or her teeth. Good oral hygiene also prevents the gums around the teeth from becoming infected.
Your childs early dental care is an important part of lifelong dental wellness.
