One of the most feared procedures in the world of dentistry is quite possibly the most misunderstood. A root canal is the area inside of a tooth that contains both the tooth’s pulp and its nerve. When a tooth becomes infected, a root canal procedure becomes necessary to prevent issues such as chronic pain and eventual tooth loss. At the Washington Center for Dentistry, the highly trained dentists may suggest a root canal procedure if a patient is experiencing symptoms of an infected tooth. Common symptoms are a localized toothache, prolonged tooth sensitivity, swelling of the gums around a tooth, an abscess or pimple on the gums around a specific tooth and/or darkening of a tooth.
Root Canal Procedure Reviews
"Great place, great service. I went to this center for an acute inflammation problem above one of my teeth. When I called, I could set up an appointment immediately (Friday late afternoon), no dental insurance required. I received a root canal procedure that was executed in a correct and professional manner, successfully. The place deserves 5* if it wasn't for the price: $2000 for a standard front tooth root canal treatment (no crowns) -- which is more than 2,5 times the average price in DC. I asked for clarification during a next visit, but only heard that this was the price for their services. If you want the royal treatment, go here. I never understood why they are so much more expensive than anyone else."- R.V. / Yelp / Feb 28, 2013
"I've been coming to the Washington Center for Dentistry since I moved into the District in 2001. I find the entire staff to be very friendly and knowledgeable, whether it's a regular cleaning or a root canal. The hours are very flexible too."- A.M. / Google / Sep 10, 2011
"I had an amazing experience with Dr. Fordjour. I saw him a while ago at a different practice for a dental emergency, which he made very easy to get through. He was very clear and straight-forward the whole time and explained all my options without pressuring me into any of them. The root canal he ultimately performed on me was less painful than any regular filling or even cleaning I've ever had done, and he made me very comfortable by explaining everything that he was doing. We even had the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on TV during the whole procedure, which was fun. I recently saw him for a consultation at Washington Dentistry and had a great experience again. He even took the time to consult with me over e-mail after the visit on a Sunday, which I've never had a dentist do. I will definitely be coming back to this practice to have my cleanings and check-ups done from now on."- M.V. / Yelp / Nov 16, 2013
"Hands down, the best experience you will ever have at the dentist! Every single member of their team is knowledgeable and extremely professional. You are truly pampered here and, while they will never cut corners when it comes to your dental health, they are also great about not recommending extra, unnecessary work just to make you pay more. On my very first visit, I showed up with an emergency root canal and the team took me in straight away. While they were working on my teeth, I actually FELL ASLEEP because I was so comfortable. Just can't go wrong with these guys..."- Google User / Google / Aug 27, 2011

Root Canal Procedure@headingTag>
Root canal treatment generally requires two visits to our Washington DC dental office. During your fist visit, a small access hole will be drilled into the infected tooth through which our dentists can insert tiny files to scrape away debris and infection. Periodically during this process, the root canal will be flushed with sodium chloride to ensure complete removal of infection.
If our dentists believe your tooth has been sufficiently cleaned after this first visit, the access hole will be sealed. If the infection was serious, medication will be placed into the tooth, and you must wait five to seven days to seal the hole. In both instances, an additional visit for the placement of a dental crown will be necessary to protect the impacted tooth.
