Dental Bonding
Dental cosmetic bonding is among the easiest and least expensive cosmetic dentistry procedures to improve a smile. The dentist applies a matching tooth-colored plastic material to the tooth that he hardens with a special light. This light ultimately "bonds" the material to the tooth. Then the doctor shapes the material into the desired length and width and he polishes the surface to match the sheen of the rest of the tooth surface.
At The Washington Center for Dentistry in Washington, D.C. Dr. Daniel J. Deutsch and his team use state-of-the-art technology and techniques to improve the look of your teeth and the quality of your smile.
Why Dental Bonding?
- To repair decayed teeth.
- To repair chipped or cracked teeth.
- To improve the appearance of discolored teeth.
- To close spaces between teeth.
- To make teeth look longer.
- To change the shape of teeth.
- To offer a cosmetic alternative to amalgam (silver) fillings.
- To protect a portion of the tooth's root that has been exposed when gums recede.
Advantages
There are many advantages to dental bonding including bonding is the least expensive of most, if not all, cosmetic procedures. Also, bonding can be done in one office visit, whereas porcelain crowns and porcelain veneers must be manufactured in a laboratory. Another advantage to bonding is that only a very little bit of tooth enamel is removed.
Many cosmetic dentists view dental bonding as best suited for minor cosmetic changes and for correction of teeth in areas of very low bite pressure (front teeth). Because bonding can chip, it is very important to avoid practices such as nail biting, chewing on ice and other hard food/objects and using your teeth to open things.
